Goals Vs. Intentions: What's the Difference?

Ever wonder about the difference between a goal and an intention?

I did for years until I decided to just create my own definitions.

Some people use the words “goal” and “intention” interchangeably. But, in my mind, they play different, but complementary, roles in helping us manifest our dreams.

My definitions:

  • Goal: A desire that you 100% believe is possible for you to accomplish.

  • Intention: A desire that you do not yet fully believe is possible.

How can goals and intentions work together to help you manifest?

Set goals that help strengthen your belief in your intentions.

For example, say that you’d like to manifest a new romantic relationship by the end of summer. But, maybe you also still doubt that this desire will manifest for you. This would be more of an “intention” than a “goal.”

And so, you decide to set an intention to manifest a relationship this summer and a goal to go on at least 15 dates with 15 new people.

Pursuing your goal of going on a lot of dates could help you to see your desired relationship as much more likely to manifest than if you took no action at all.

Pursuing this goal helps you shift your energy from doubt to belief.

And, this type of energy shift may be all that’s required to move a desire from intention into reality.

The trick is to understand that the purpose of your goal is not for one of your 15 dates to manifest into a new relationship. The point is simply to help you shift from doubt to belief.

When the shift from doubt to belief happens, your new desire must manifest through whatever your path of least resistance is.

The path of least resistance may or may not have anything to do with your goal.

Using the dating example above, you might meet your new love on date #7 of 15.

Or, a friend might call you up out of the blue about this awesome person that you "just have to meet!"

The point is to stay open to how your intention will manifest. Pursuing the goal may or may not lead to your desire in a linear, direct fashion.

But, it may cause enough of an energy alignment that you tip your balance from doubt to belief and allow you desire into your reality.

Because, as deliberate creators we know that...

Action by itself doesn't create, energy alignment creates.

But, taking action can help us create energy alignment. Taking action can help us believe in what we want and therefore have a much easier time manifesting it.

And so, when considering your own juicy intentions...

  • What goals could you pursue that would make it easier to believe in these exciting dreams manifesting?

  • Which of the goals that come to mind would be the most fun and the easiest for you to accomplish?

That’s where I’d suggest beginning if you want to use the power of goals and intentions together for biggest and best benefit. 😁

Adrianne
